Square with 'The Interrupted Forest' memorial
On Rabbiner-Rülf-Platz and the upper part of the large flight of steps leading to the Saar is a memorial to the Jews of Saarland who were murdered during the Nazi era.The memorial entitled 'The Interrupted Forest' was created by the Darmstadt sculptor Prof Ariel Auslender together with Fabian Luttropp and consists of 40 bronze tree trunks. These represent a 'forest of remembrance' that contrasts with the 'natural forest' of delicate Japanese string trees on the square.
