Striking pointed cone slag heap and a reminder of the mining and industrial history of the Saarland.

The Lydia spoil tip is part of the former Camphausen mine, which ceased production in 1990. The spoil tip was opened to the public in 2006 and is now a popular excursion destination, inviting hikers to explore.

The 12-hectare spoil tip towers 60-120 metres above the ground and offers a special view of the surrounding area. With its black-grey surfaces and sparse vegetation, it forms a radical contrast to the otherwise lush green of the Saarkohle forest.

The 'sky mirrors', three circular rainwater basins that reflect the sky and clouds, are a particularly impressive natural spectacle.

The Lydia spoil tip is currently closed until at least 2024.
