Culture

Baroque gem, built by Friedrich Joachim Stengel.

The Basilica in St. Johann, built by Friedrich Joachim Stengel from 1754 to 1758, now showcases the Baroque beauty of the 18th century following its extensive restoration.

It was awarded the special honorary title "basilica minor" by Pope Paul VI. Notable features include the bronze portal and entrance area, designed by Saarbrücken artist Ernst Alt.

Worth mentioning is also the basilica's organ. It consists of three independent instruments: the main organ and two choir organs in the former princely boxes. All three organs can be played individually or together, promising a unique musical experience.
