Culture

A prestigious square – directly opposite the castle and constructed according to the plans of the architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel.

The present-day Old Town Hall was the first building on the castle square when it was newly designed. It is located directly across from the palace and served as the prominent conclusion of the square.

This three-story building, with its prominent two-axial central projection and tower, represented the bourgeoisie of the city. The segmental gable shows the year of construction, MDCCL (1750), and the coat of arms of Saarbrücken. The clock tower is crowned with a Baroque onion dome.

Today, the building houses the seat of the Volkshochschule Regionalverband Saarbrücken (Adult Education Center).
