In the Castle of Saarbrücken, you'll enjoy a royal view over the state capital.

The Castle of Saarbrücken perches atop a sandstone cliff overlooking the Saar river. The naming of the state capital is also attributed to it: "Sara Brocca" derives from Old High German and roughly translates to "cliff by the Saar."

Baroque architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel designed the castle as a Baroque residence on behalf of Prince Wilhelm Heinrich. In the 18th century, it served as the center of what is now the Alt-Saarbrücken district. The baroque ensemble around Schlossplatz also bears Stengel's signature.

Having undergone several periods of damage, partial destruction and reconstruction, the castle has shone anew since 1989 when the architect Gottfried Böhm designed a contemporary central building made of glass and steel.

Today, the castle serves as an administrative center for the regional association as well as a cultural venue and event location for conferences and gala evenings. Especially the open-air series "Sonntags ans Schloss" is popular.

The castle's grand halls are also available for business meetings, seminars and private celebrations.
